KABUL insurgents and a police commander have been killed during separate incidents of violence in various provinces, officials said on Thursday.
A NATO drone pounded a militant compound in the Watapur district of eastern Kunar province on Thursday, killing a dreaded Taliban commander, Qari Mohammad Rahman, along with four companions, all group leaders, police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
In central Maidan Wardak, two insurgents were killed and three others captured alive during clashes with security forces in Syedabad and Jalrez district.
The police commander was killed in a roadside bombing in northwestern Faryab province on Thursday.
Another two policemen were injured in the blast in Bukhar Qala area of Almar district, Faryab police chief, Col. Nabi Jan Mullah Khail told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Following the blast, the Taliban attacked a police post, sparking a gun-battle. Four civilians were injured when a mortar shell hit a house in the area, the district chief, Mohammad Salih Salihi, said.
A local elder said the injured included women and children, accusing the police of firing the shell.
The victims’ mother, Zarifa, said she and her son and husband sustained injuries when a rocket hit a tree in their house and exploded.
