KANDAHAR CITY (PAN were among 15 people who sustained injuries during a car-bus collision and in a mortar fire incident in the Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, officials said on Thursday.
The accident took place on the Kandahar-Herat highway around 9am in the Hotel area, leaving seven people, including a woman, injured, the district chief, Saleh Mohammad, said.
The crash involved the 303 public transport bus that hit the car coming in opposite direction from Kandahar City side, he said, adding police had rushed the injured, all occupants of the car, to hospital.
The governor’s spokesman, Javed Faisal, said the bus driver had been arrested as an investigation into the accident went on.
Elsewhere in the insurgency plagued town, eight members of a family, including six women, were injured when a stray mortar shell hit their house in the Shah Ghasi Kala area.
Faisal said the target was Afghan National Army troops conducting an operation against insurgents in the area. The troops had evacuated the injured to hospital and were searching for those responsible, he said.
