LASHKARGAH (PAN): The Sangin district of southern Helmand province has been cleared of insurgents as a result of a security operation, the governor’s house said on Thursday.
Forty militants, including foreign terrorists, were killed in the three-day offensive in the district, a statement from the governor’s office said. The rebels’ corpses are still lying at the scene.
“As a result of the operation, all areas of the district have been cleared of militant presence and Afghan forces are now setting up security checkpoints there,” the statement added.
