KABUL): Foreign forces’ flawed decisions and mistakes have pained the Afghans a great deal, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials alleged on Saturday.

Ministry spokesman Janan Musazai told a news conference in Kabul: “Many mistakes have been committed in the war on terror and counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan.”

But most of the errors had been rectified as a result of pressure from the Afghan government, particularly President Hamid Karzai’s repeated complaints and criticism.

As an upshot, all security operations were currently led by Afghan forces, he said, adding all NATO-led combat troops would exit the country by the end of 2014.

Foreign forces would stay in the country beyond that date on the basis of bilateral agreements with the government in Kabul, the spokesman explained.

At the same time, Musazai acknowledged, Afghanistan had benefitted a lot from foreign aid and investment over the past 11 years. The country has been rebuilt to some extent and state institutions revived.

He noted considerable progress made in the fields of education regime in late 2001.

The spokesman welcomed Mullah, hoping the move would help jump-start the Afghan-led peace process.

“Now is the time Mullah Baradar (currently in a safe house in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi) is reunited with his family and spend time with them. How he can be contacted and what role he can play in the reconciliation campaign will be discussed later,” he continued.
