KABUL): Eight militants and four
Afghan Local Police (ALP) members have been killed during separate incidents of violence in central Logar and northwestern Faryab provinces, officials said on Thursday.
ALP members ambushed a group of insurgents in Kamalkhel area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, Logar’s capital, on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman said.
Din Mohammad Darwesh added two Taliban Bashir and Mullah Ghazi.
Darwesh said that five fighters and one ALP member sustained injuries. Eyewitness Amir Shah saw the dead bodies of three militants lying on the ground.
According to Darwesh, three Haqqani network airstrike in the Baraki Barak district.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said two rockets were fired into a NATO base in Logar, but had no reports about casualties.
Mujahid claimed an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed during a clash with fighters late on Wednesday near Pul-i-Alam.
Elsewhere, four ALP members and two militants were killed during a gun-battle in Faryab last night.
The clash broke out after militants attacked seven off-duty ALP personnel on their way home in Qaisar district, said the district chief, Abdul Jamil Sadiqi. Two attackers were killed and a third wounded as ALP members returned fire.
