NEW YORK (PAN has once again called for a halt to drone strikes, saying the attacks are violative of international law and hamper collective efforts for combating the scourge of terrorism.
Participating in a UN Security Council debate in New York on Thursday, Pakistan’s foreign affairs advisor stressed an immediate end to the American drone strikes in tribal areas near the Afghanistan border.
Sartaj Aziz told the 15-member UN body that the attacks — amounting to a clear breach of international humanitarian law — were detrimental to efforts at fighting terrorism.
“Drone strikes result in civilian casualties, including women of children.
The Security Council adopted a resolution seeking to reinforce measures to prevent illicit transfers, accumulation and misuse of small weapons.
