KABUL and the UK would be meeting in London next month as part of their fourth round of trilateral talks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.

President Hamid Karzai, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his British counterpart David Cameron are expected to open the dialogue in October, said Janan Musazai, the ministry spokesman.

Without giving a specific date, he told a press conference in Kabul: “It is too early to comment on the meeting’s agenda.”

The announcement came after Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul held a meeting with his British and Pakistani counterparts on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Musazai said the three ministers had agreed to do the necessary homework for the summit and discussed enhanced cooperation in improving the often-tense relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They also discussed Islamabad’s role in the Afghan-led peace drive, he added.

Karzai, former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Cameron had attended the previous trilateral summit in London in February last year. They had agreed on pushing ahead with the process to stabilise Afghanistan.
