KABUL) main office in Kabul.

Abdullah, the National Coalition of Afghanistan, is expected to announce his strategy at a media briefing after meeting the formalities involved in the nomination process at the IEC.

Political heavyweights Yunus Qanuni, Salahuddin Rabbani, Atta Mohammad Noor, Abdul Haq Ulumi, Senate Deputy Chairman Mohammad Alam Ezedyar and others accompanied the former foreign minister to the IEC office.

A Pajhwok correspondent reported from the commission’s office that Eng. Mohammad Khan, the Hezb-I-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) deputy chief, and Mohammad Mohaqiq would be Abdullah’s vice-presidents.

A day earlier, the HIA faction, led by Economy Minister Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, said Khan would be the first-vice president if Abdullah won the presidential ballot.

HIA spokesman Abdullah Kamawal told Pajhwok Afghan News the party had signed an agreement with the Jamiat-i-Islami Afghanistan on an electoral alliance late on Monday.
