Safi Airways starts flights to Islamabad

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Safi Airways, the privately-owned Afghan airline, on Wednesday said it had launched flights between Kabul and Islamabad.

The airline is operating three flights a week between the capitals of Afghanistaninfo-icon and Pakistaninfo-icon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

A statement from the company said the first flight took off on Tuesday at 13.00 hours and landed at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International airport at 14.45 hours.

Passengers on the aircraft were welcomed with the traditional water cannon salute. Afghan government and airline officials were met by their counterparts on arrival at a reception at Rawal VIP Lounge.

Return flights would leave Islamabad on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 15.45 hours, arriving at 16.25 hours at the Kabul International airport, the airline said in a statement.

Safi Airways Marketing Manager Naeem Mahmoor said: “We will be operating our modern Airbus 319 aircraft on this route with a two-cabin configuration (business and economy).”

In operation since 2006, the airline currently operates two flights a day from Kabul to Dubai and four flights from Kabul to New Delhi on the international route network.

Safi Airways Country Manager for Pakistan Ejaz Butt commented “We are delighted that we have been able to meet our customers’ needs as we continue our drive to be Afghanistan’s favourite airline...”
