ISLAMABAD (PANinfo-icon): Six people were killed and 15 others wounded in a bomb explosion on the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of Pakistaninfo-icon's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Monday.

A senior police officer said the bomb exploded in the Sulaimankhel area of Badaber, where an anti-polio campaign tools were being distributed at a small healthinfo-icon unit. The dead included four policemen.

A spokesman for the Lady Reading Hospital, Jamil Shah, confirmed four dead bodies and 15 wounded people had been received from the blast site.

Two members of a local peace committee were also among the fatalities, Senior Superintendent Police (Operations) Najibur Rehman told journalists. The injured included eight policemen, he added.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the remote-controlled bomb blast. Another explosive device was also found in the vicinity and the bomb disposal experts were called in to defuse it.

A dozen policemen providing security to a polio team were the apparent target of the attack, which drew instant condemnation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
