MAIMANA/PULKHUMRI (PAN): Two armed rebels were killed and five others wounded when the bomb they were making went off prematurely in northwestern Faryab province, officials said on Wednesday.

The blast occurred overnight when a group of Taliban was busy making landmines in a former security post in Qaisar district, Abdul Jamil Siddiqui, the town’s administrative head, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the insurgents aimed to plant the roadside explosive device, targeting local security forces.

Maj. Raza Raza, a spokesman for the Afghan National Army (ANA) 209th Shaheen Corps, said the two militants’ bodies were still lying at the blast site.

Two days earlier, security personnel detained a would-be bomber along with an explosive device, two Kalashnikovs and a motorcycle in the Khan Charbagh district of Faryab province.

In Baghlan province, authorities claimed seizing an ammunition depot in Adrabhai area. Police spokesman Javed Basharat said 146 BMI missiles and different ammunitions were seized.

He added the ammunitions, stored by illegal armed individuals, were recovered during an operation by police and ANA soldiers in Pul-i-Hesar district.
