KABUL Cup last week, with thousands of cheering fans lining up on both sides of the airport road to welcome the heroes.

In Sharjah, Afghanistan defeated Kenya in four matches, but tasted a 34-run defeat in the last twenty-20 encounter on Friday as the two-match series was tied 1-1.

The victorious Afghan side arrived at the Kabul International Airport around 5pm and welcomed by hundreds of fans, government officials and lawmakers.

Dozens of vehicles decorated with national flags proceeded toward the airport and then escorted the players to the Ghazi Cricket Stadium, where a big gathering is underway.

Thousands of people, making long queues along the airport road, welcomed the players as they were driven to the stadium. The players were presented bouquets of flowers by fans, government officials, political leaders and Olympic Committee members.

A week back when Afghanistan beat Kenya by seven wickets, cheering crowds danced at drumbeat, waved national flags and drove cars at high-speed through the city.

The victory earned Afghanistan a place in the 2015 WC to be held in Australia and New Zealand, where they are drawn in the same group — Australia, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and one other qualifier.
