Insurgent group reconciles with govt in Herat

HERAT CITY (PANinfo-icon): A 13-member insurgent group, led by two commanders, reconciled with the government in western Herat province, an official said on Saturday.

Led by commanders Malook and Mullahinfo-icon Abdul Karim, the group which had been active in Injeel and Kashk districts, turned in 14 weapons, said Maulviinfo-icon Ghulan Sarwar, the provincial peace committee chief.

The surrendering commander, Mullah Abdul Karim, confessed to his group’s involvement in insurgent activities at a ceremony also attended by foreign troops.  

He said as foreign troops were preparing to leave Afghanistaninfo-icon by the end of 2014, they decided to renounce insurgency.
