Mujaddedi to head Loya Jirga preparatory body

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Former president Hazrat Sibghatullah Mujaddedi has been appointed as head of a commission tasked with making preparations for holding a Loya Jirgainfo-icon to finalise a key security agreement between Kabul and Washington.

The traditional Loya Jirga is said to be convened within a month time to make a final decision on immunity for US troops from prosecution in Afghanistaninfo-icon as the deal-breaking part of the agreement.

President Karzai on Sunday said he had agreed with US Secretary of State on most many sticking issues, but the issue of jurisdiction for American troops after 2014 was beyond the authority of his government.

He said the Loya Jirga would be convened to make a final decision on the issue of immunity.

Through a presidential decree, Karzai appointed Mujaddedi, also the head of reconciliation commission,  as chief of the Loya Jirga preparatory commission.

Sadeq Mudaber has been appointed as his deputy on the commission and Maulviinfo-icon Khuda-i-Dad, Prof. Niamatullah Shehrani, Syed Hamid Gilani, Abdul Karim Mujahid, Hajji Din Mohammad, Khalid Farooqi, Mahmud Daqiq Osmani, Humayun Shinwari and Maulvi Sher Mohammad Akhundzada as members.

Other members of the commission are Syed Mohammad Amin Tariq, Nadir Khan Nawrozi, Faqir Mohammad, Wakeel Abdul Jabbar, Fazel Karim Aimaq, Mullahinfo-icon Mohammad Akhund, Fauzia Habibi, Momina Yari, Sarajuddin Safari, Baz Mohammad Jawzjani, Syed Hussain Razemjo, Syed Sharif Yousufi, Hajji Alok Khan Alkozaim, Abdul Khaliq Hussaini Pashae and Jamal Kotwal.
