KABUL Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand, calling the success a great honour for his nation.

Karzai was speaking to national and under-19 cricket players during a reception held in their honour at the Presidential Palace a day after the national squad arrived to a hero’s welcome from Sharjah.

Afghanistan last week beet Kenya by seven wickets in the UAE and qualified for the showpiece.

Karzai also congratulated the under-19 crew for their victory against the UAE in Malaysia and hoped the young blood would continue to bring home laurels.

In his address to the national team members, the president said their landmark achievements in the sport had earned Afghanistan a good name in the comity of nations.

Karzai also conferred the Mir Bacha Khan Medals on national and under-19 players and the cricket board chief and other officials. He also announced the allotment of a two-room flat for each player in the Khwaja Rawish residential scheme and cash prizes.
