TIRINKOT (PAN): Police shot dead an alleged suicide attacker before he could reach his target in the capital of central Uruzgan province, where a bomb blast killed one policeman and injured three, officials said on Wednesday.
The suicide attacker, who apparently intended to target a police station in the Meharabad area of Tirinkot, was recognised and killed at 6:30pm yesterday, police spokesman Farid Ayel told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The attacker’s identity remained unknown, but police had launched an investigation in this regard, he said.
The incident comes four days after two suspected suicide bombers on a bike were killed when explosives they carried went off outside Tirinkot.
Early on Wednesday, a landmine blast in a recreation spot left one policeman killed and three others injured in the city’s first police district, police officer 2nd Lt. Gul Agha told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the police were on a foot patrol in the Garmab Manda picnic spot when the blast took place. He said civilians were not present in the area at the time of the blast.
