JALALABAD (PAN insurgents attacked police posts in the Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province on Wednesday, killing a policeman and injuring three civilians, the governor said.
Mohammad Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News the gun-battle between insurgents and police was still ongoing.
Meanwhile, deputy police chief Col. Ghulam Farooq said insurgents fired several mortal shells at the police posts, with some of the shells hitting civilian houses. Several people suffered casualties in the Taliban-fired shells, he said, but added exact figures were yet to be known.
Elsewhere in the province, two insurgents were killed during a US drone strike in the Waint Wegal district.
Farooq said the drone targeted the pair at the entrance to the district on Tuesday. He accused the slain individuals of their involvement in destructive activities.
So far 50 drone strikes have taken place in Nuristan, killing 10 militants.
