CHARIKAR): The Parwan-Bamyan highway reopened on Wednesday, six days after it was blocked by insurgents by placing huge rocks in the Seyah Gard and Sheikh Ali districts of central Parwan province, officials said.
Vehicles were allowed movement on the busy route that connects various districts, including Shinwari, Seyah Gard, Sorkh-i-Parsa and Sheikh Ali.
The joint cleanup operation aimed at reopening the highway involved Afghan National Army (ANA), police and intelligence personnel, the provincial counternarcotics department head, Col. Lotfur Rahman Reshad, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the armed rebels had fled the area due to the offensive.
The Sheikh Ali district chief, Noor Aqa Sami, confirmed the insurgents had fled the area, saying people could commute on the route without any fear.
