KABUL (PAN): The Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) on Wednesday appealed presidential and provincial council candidates to approach local printing industries trading in election campaign materials as part of electioneering ahead of next year’s ballot.

AISA chief Wafiullah Iftikhar told a press conference candidates in the previous elections spent more than $20 million, ordering banners, portraits and other campaign materials outside the country.

He called on the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to introduce a policy that could lure candidates into buying local products and helping to strengthen local industry.

Iftikhar said the 10 qualified presidential candidates had been sent letters, giving information about locally-made materials for electioneering in the run up to the April 5 vote.
