KABUL): A gutsy knock of 107 runs by Fazal Zazai led Rangers to trounce Tigers in the opener of the Million Cricket Cup in Kabul on Friday, an official said.
Organised by the Loba Cricket Club (LCC), the event began after national team member Karim Khan Sadiq played a delivery thrown by Raees Ahmadzai at the Zarmalwal Stadium in Ahmad Shah Baba Mina.
LCC official Zarab Shah Zaheer told Pajhwok Afghan News the star-studded Rangers, including Raees Ahmadzai, Mohibullah Oryakhel, Amir Mangal, Fazal Zazai and Fazal Niazi, opted to bat first after winning the toss.
In the stipulated 20 overs, Rangers piled up 216 runs for the loss of six wickets, a target too stiff for the opposition to achieve, Zaheer said.
Tigers were restricted to 161 for the loss of eight wickets, with Samiullah Shinwari Junior 00and Muzamil Shinwari contributing 46 and 35 runs respectively.
Zazai won the Man of the Match for his spectacular century, according to the LCC official, who said the Afghanistan Cricket Board had provided technical assistance to the club in organising the tournament.
