KABUL’s under-14 boys and under-17 girls’ football teams recently returned from India after participating in the two-week Subroto Cup Football Tournament, the Indian embassy in Kabul said on Monday.
The event is an inter-school tournament, which is named after Indian Air Force Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee. The first edition of the annual contest was organised in the year 1960.
Conducted by the Indian Air Force with support from India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the tournament aims to use sports to foster friendship among the youth of India and friendly countries.
The Afghan U-14 team played three matches, winning two and drawing one. Just three months old, the girls’ team played a total of four matches and gave a splendid performance.
