KABUL on the Bilateral Security Agreement with the US on Monday refused to be part of the panel.
President Hamid Karzai recently named Mahaz-i-Milli leader Syed Hamid Gilani as deputy chairman of the preparatory commission, led by Sibghatullah Mujaddedi.
But Gilani told media outlets he was not ready to join the commission, saying there would be no need for the jirga if the Afghan-US Strategic Partnership Agreement was implemented.
Convening the Loya Jirga on the BSA would amount to undermining the parliament’s role in dealing with issues of national importance, he argued, seeing no justification for huge expenses on conducting the forum.
