Lasting peace in Afghanistan was in the interest of the entire region, Defence Secretary Lt. Gen. (R) Asif Yasin Malik said at a meeting with a British delegation in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.
“Pakistan has rendered sacrifices in the war against terror, which need to be acknowledged by the international community,” he told the United Kingdom Defence Committee team on Tuesday.
James Arbuthnot, a member of House of Commons and the team leader, said the United Kingdom appreciated sacrifices given by the armed forces and people of Pakistan.
The delegation also discussed with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan the present and future situation in Afghanistan and withdrawal of the NATO forces.
On Afghanistan, Ch. Nisar said a “regional approach” would be the best way forward. He believed Pakistan could play an effective role in this regional due to its unique position.
