TALOQAN/CHAGCHARAN): Asphalting of the Taloqan-Hazar Somach road, funded by Germany, began in northern Takhar province on Thursday, officials said.
Also on Thursday, construction of a bridge on the Harirod River got under way in Ghor province a project aimed to ease residents’ transportation problems.
Sunnatullah Taimouri, the spokesman for the Takhar governor, said the German Development Bank had provided $2.7 million for asphalting the road.
A MoU for the road project, to be completed by the end of 2014, was signed today between local authorities and representatives of the German government, he said.
Mustafa Rassouli, a rural development department official, said residence of more than 30 villages would have access to transportation facilities once the road was asphalted.
Ghor Ruler Development Director Eng. Taj Mohammad Zalal said construction of the 42-metre bridge on Harirod River would be completed in nine months.
The project worth $152,000 is being funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, offering 230 individuals work opportunities.
