Would-be suicide bomber shot to death

Nov 05, 2013 - 16:45

KANDAHAR CITY (PANinfo-icon): Police shot dead a would-be suicide bomber near the Friendship Gate on the Afghanistaninfo-icon-Pakistaninfo-icon border in southern Kandahar province on Tuesday, an official said.

Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomber was gunned down by border police in the Wesh area Spin Boldak district this afternoon.

Faisal said the attacker wanted to conduct a car-bomb attack on border police, but the security personnel positively identified and shot him dead before he reached his target.

The suspect was killed after he ignored police signals to stop, according to the spokesman, who said the assailant’s car exploded as a result of police fire. Police and civilians were not harmed in the incident.
