KABUL) to review what they called an unconstitutional and discriminatory decision that threw them out of the race.

The rejected runners have established a union to press the commission to review its decision on removing 17 presidential contenders from the initial list.

Humaira Haqmal, a vice-presidential running mate of Hamidullah Qadri, one of the ruled out candidates, read out a joint declaration of the union at a press conference in Kabul.

The declaration says unconstitutional and discriminatory behavior of the election commission left them in trouble, but benefited those contesting the elections from Herat, Balkh and some others provinces.

The declaration added the Independent Election Commission (IEC)’s decision was tantamount to attacking their dignity and the move would not be left unanswered.

Haqmal said the union would enter a legal battle with the IEC on the disqualification issue.

She called on civil society networks and the media to jointly actively work for holding inclusive elections.

She said civil society and the media should not allow the IEC to commit law violations and fraud during the elections.
