PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): The Jilga district chief was arrested on charges of misappropriating food assistance to students and teachers in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Sunday.

Governor Sultan Mohammad Ibadi told Pajhwok Afghan News an NGO had donated oil and wheat to students and teachers in Jilga district, but most of the aid was embezzled by Mohammad Sarwar.

The provincial appellant court was trying Sarwar and had issued arrest warrants for accomplice, the district education chief, the governor added.

Din Mohammad Quraishi, the provincial appeal court judge, confirmed the district chief’s arrest, but declined giving details.

Last week, the Baghlan crime branch chief was arrested for releasing criminals and misusing his authority.

Col. Noor Gul was also accused of causing a traffic incident that resulted in the killing of two children and injuries two others on the Baghlan-Pul-i-Khumri highway two months ago.
