JALALABAD (PAN): Power supply to over 200 families was snapped after a small dam was blown up in the Dara-i-Noor district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.

The dam in Chawal area was destroyed on Sunday night in a bomb explosion, Dara-I-Noor district chief, Israrullah Qarizada, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the dam was had been constructed under the National Solidarity programme, costing more than $87,000. Residents had also contribution to the dam’s cost, he added.

Although Qarizada did not blame anyone for the attack, a statement from the governor’s office linked the incident to local rivalries.

A resident of Dara-i-Noor, Haji Jandhar, said the security situation in the district had deteriorated recently.
