KHOST CITY (PAN constituting 15 percent of them, received voter cards in southeastern Khost province, an official said on Tuesday.

Provincial Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief Sahibuddin Zadran told Pajhwok Afghan News the registration process had been a success in all districts.

He said the turnout at all the 13 registration centres had been satisfactory, thanks to effective awareness programmes on the elections.

He said a registration center would remain open to issue voter cards to newly returning refugee families or those having not yet obtained the cards.

Zadran claimed the registration drive had gone well in Khost, compared to its neighbouring provinces.

However, he acknowledged women’s participation in the registration process had been lukewarm in the face of culture restrictions.

A resident of Ali Sher district, Ahmadullah, a recipient of the voter card, said he wanted to participate in the April 5 elections.

He added though mobile teams had been late in launching their activities, yet many residents in rural areas were able to get voter cards through the teams.

The resident called on the electoral body to extend the duration of mobile teams’ operations in remote areas so that all people could obtain voter cards.
