KUNDUZ CITY (PANinfo-icon): Unknown gunmen shot dead a former jihadiinfo-icon commander along with a personal guard in the Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province on Thursday morning, an official said.

Khwaja Mohammad and his guard were walking in Bandar Bukhari area where they came under attack from unknown assailants, who made good their escape from the scene, according to Hayatullah Ameri, the district chief.

The official said an investigation into the incident had been opened. Mohammad was a brother of Juma Din, a prominent pro-government jihadi commander in the town.

The security responsibility has been transferred to Afghan forces from their foreign counterparts in Khanabad, where 2,000 illegal armed individuals are said to be operating.
