KABUL): Noted poet and writer Nasrullah Hafiz has passed away at a hospital in Kabul after a brief ailment, a relative said on Thursday.
Following a fall from stairs in his house, Hafiz was admitted to the 400-bed Sardar Daud Khan Hospital, where he died of hemorrhage last night.
Siddiqullah Badar, a member of his family, told Pajhwok Afghan News funeral for Hafiz, 82, would be offered in the Amir Shaheed Garden in Jalalabad later in the day.
He will be laid to rest in the Hafizan village of Khogyani district, according to Badar, who called the deceased a poet propagating love, highlighting the need for peace and stressing the sanctity of life.
A son of Mirza Noorul Islam, Hafiz was born in the Chaparhar district of eastern Nangarhar province. He penned 39 collections of poems and prose on diverse subjects.
He received early education in his hometown and started writing poems in his 6th class. As his imagery matured with time, he chose topics that touched the teeming masses.
