PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN, as part of an investigation into sexual assaults on two minor girls in the Borka district of northern Baghlan province, an official said.
Borka district chief, Abdul Jabbar Islami, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that police had detained the two women on the basis of evidence they had played a role in the two interlinked rape incidents.
A 9-year-old girl had allegedly been raped by a man, whose 15-year-old sister was then sexually assaulted by the first victim’s male family member in revenge, explained the district chief.
Women’s Affairs Director Khadija Yaqin called the incident shocking, un-Islamic and inhuman, asking the authorities to award severe punishment to those involved in the incident — the third of its kind in Baghlan this year.
A senior civil society activist, Abdul Ahad Bariman, said violence against women had increased in the province. He asked the government to investigate the Borka incident.
