KANDAHAR CITY (PAN to debate the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US, strict security measures have been put in place across southern Kandahar province, officials said on Wednesday.

As part of a comprehensive security plan, the security measures were reviewed at a meeting held in Kandahar City, the provincial capital, in which Deputy Governor Abdul Qadim Patyal, Deputy Police chief Col. Rahmatullah Atrafi, border police commander Mohammad Rassoul Alizai and other senior officials were present.

Patyal said militant groups would use various tactics to create chaos in Kabul and provincial capitals during the course of Loya Jirga and that was why tight security measures had been adopted to thwart any untoward incident.

Taliban do not want the nation to discuss the security pact, they want to sabotage the event,” he added, urging the masses to extend their cooperation to security forces in maintaining security in the province.

The meeting came after a suspected suicide bomber was shot dead in Kandahar City. Officials said security had been tightened throughout the province.
