KABUL): Beijing and Moscow lent their firm support to plans for expanding exchanges and relations between Kabul and Islamabad, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on Friday.

“It will have positive impact on the regional situation,” Hong Lei said about the second round of China-Pakistan. The talks were held in Islamabad two days back.

The spokesman told a daily news briefing in Beijing the three sides agreed the situation in Afghanistan, particularly in the build-up to 2014, would have an important effect on regional stability.

According to the Pakistani news agency APP, the participants renewed support for an inclusive Afghan-led reconciliation process. They urged the international community to help the country develop its economy.

“In a regional context, the three parties agreed to strengthen the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Afghanistan. Russian and Pakistani delegations expressed their support for China’s hosting of the ministerial meeting of Istanbul Process in Tianjin in 2014.”

The three countries will hold the next round of trilateral talks in Moscow in the first half of 2014. The first session had been held in Beijing in April this year.
