GARDEZ (PAN): Police have arrested smugglers and recovered 204 kilograms hashish and 100 jerrycanes of acid from their possession in the southeastern Paktia province, an official said Sunday.

Provincial police chief, Col. Zalmai Oryakhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News the smugglers with drugs had been detained during the past two days from Waza Zadran and Ahmad Abad districts.

During the operation, three vehicles of smugglers had been impounded, he said, adding that drive against criminals and drug smugglers had been intensified.

“Paktia has no drugs but the stuff is being brought from other provinces which are then transported abroad,” he added.

Noor Rehman, a resident of Paktia, said drug smuggling could be controlled if the smugglers were given exemplary punishment.
