MAIMANA (PAN): A former commander of the Junbish-i-Millie Islami party, led by Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, has been killed in northern Faryab province, an official said on Sunday.

Syed Najibullah was shot dead by a gunman near the Chehilgazi Bazaar in Qaisar district late on Saturday, the town’s administrative head said.

Abdul Jamil Siddiqui said Najibullah headed a police group in Qaisar, where he had allegedly killed a named Syed Qutbuddin six years back. Subsequently, he was jailed and released early this year.

He added the ex-commander had been killed by Syed Ismail, Qutbuddin’s brother. The murderer has fled the district and joined Taliban.

Syed Abdul Baqi Hashimi, the provincial council secretary and member of the Junbish-i-Millie Islami, said the commander had been killed in revenge.
