KABUL): Scotching speculation, presidential contender Gul Agha Sherzai said on Wednesday he would not withdraw from the race in favour of any aspirant.
Addressing a news conference in Kabul, the former Nangarhar governor said such rumours were being spread by his political rivals and some media organisations.
He would remain in the race to the end, Sherzai said, urging President Hamid Karzai to sign the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US by the end of the current year.
He said the pact was in the larger interest of Afghanistan and its people because it guaranteed the country’s stability in the long term.
