MAIMANA (PAN): Unidentified gunmen have beheaded a woman in Sherin Tagab district of the northwestern Faryab province, officials said Thursday.
Sayed Luqman Gahreek, Sherin Tagab district head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a 35-years old woman was stabbed to death on Wednesday night at her home in Gorzad village.
The woman had four children while her husband had been working abroad in Iran, Gahreek said, adding two people had been detained in connection of the brutal killing.
The reason behind her killing would yet to be ascertained, he added.
But Samiullah, a local council head, said two gunmen beheaded the woman with a knife and police had arrested her father-in-law and one of her relative.
Three days back, unidentified people killed 25-years old woman in Khwaja Sabzposh district of Faryab province.
According to Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), during the first half of the current year, as many as 4, 154 cases of violence against women had been recorded while last year, the figure stood at 3, 331.
Expressing concerns over 25% increase, AIHRC said access to education, lack of government attention to protect women rights and absence of relevant law were among reasons behind the increase in violence against women.
