Security will be bolstered for elections: Zadran

SHARANA (PAN): Security officials of the southeastern Paktia province on Friday assured stringent security measures would be put in place for the upcoming elections and voters would take part in ballots without any sense of fear.

Brig. Gen. Dawlat Khan Zadran, provincial police chief, said security arrangements had been beefed up in a move to pave way for presidential and provincial council polls.

Talking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Zadran said: “Provincial authority has bolstered law and order in districts where votes could not poll their votes in the last elections. We have deployed more police personnel to enhance law and order of the insecure areas. Our people will now be able to cast their votes in an environment free of fear.”

Voter turnout would be increased in the coming elections, he said, adding that successful elections were linked to beef up security and improved law and order.

Zarab Shah, provincial election commission head, said all those received the voter registration cards would poll their votes if security was maintained.

Locals acknowledged order and security had been improved now throughout the province.

Babri, a tribal elder, said people could not cast their votes in last elections in Katawaz and Orgun districts because of insecurity who observed considerable improvement in law and order with more people would take part in the elections.
