JALALABAD (PAN): Three intelligence operatives were injured in a suicide attack in the Torkham border town of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday morning, an official said.

The bomber was on foot and detonated his explosive vest in front of the compound of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) at around 7:00am, Col. Mohammad Ayub Hussainkhel, a border police official in eastern zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Two intelligence operatives and an employee of the compound were injured in the explosion, he said.

Wishing not to be named, another security official said the attacker was dressed in a military uniform and approached the compound early in the morning.

The security officials on duty were prompted to open fire on the man forcing his way into the compound, he said, adding the gunbattle left two security men injured.

Saifullah, a shopkeeper in Torkham, said he had heard a loud blast, but had no details about casualties.

Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
