PUL-I-ALAM (PAN uprising leader Farhad Akbari, detained in connection with former Logar governor Arsala Jamal’s assassination, was released on Monday, an official said.

Security forces had arrested for interrogations 10 suspects, including Akbari and some Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, following the killing of Jamal in a mosque bombing on October 17.

Akbari had been was in the custody of the National Directorate of Security (NDS for investigations. He was accorded a warm welcome by relatives and supporters upon arrival in the provincial capital.

Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Akbari said he was still committed to flushing out militants from his area with the continued support of residents.

Around 80 villages had been purged of insurgents by his supporters, he said, adding that he had lost three family members during the anti-Taliban uprising.

Despite fighting a national cause, he was discouraged by being implicated in Jamal’s killing, he said, denouncing the governor’s assassination.

Syed Akbar Agha, Akbari’s father, expressed pleasure over the release of his son. Akbari was innocent, he insisted, saying there was no reason for his detention.

Mohammad Hashim Faizi, the deputy governor, said Akbari’s arrest was part of a comprehensive investigation process.
