PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): A group of suicide attackers, planning an attack on the governor’s house, had been detained in northern Baghlan province, officials said on Thursday.
The militant group was busted during an operation in the Dand-i-Ghori area on the outskirts of Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, the provincial police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the group planned to attack Baghlan officials. However, the police officer did not give further details.
A suicide vest, a Kalashnikov, some explosives and a remote-control device were seized during the operation, he added.
Area resident Mamoor Aslam said the operation was conducted in Wardak village and five people, who had recently come to the area, were arrested.
According to another report, the body of a police officer was found in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province.
Police officer Amanullah Ibrahimi said his colleague Mohibullah was killed late on Wednesday after being kidnapped by the Taliban.
