KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Residents on Tuesday blocked the Kabul-Kandahar highway for several hours at various locations in the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province to protest the alleged desecration of the holy Quraninfo-icon by security forces.

Hundreds of people took part in a protest in the Othro village, resident Sibghatullah told Pajhwok Afghan News over the telephone. He claimed demonstrations were carried out in various areas of the district, blocking the highway until noon.

Another resident, who declined to be named, said demonstrations were held in Shash Qala, Lora, Haft Asyab, Sultankhel, Salar and Spin Clinic areas. The protestors accused security forces of insulting the holy book four days ago in a mosqueinfo-icon in Serak village.

Other sources told Pajhwok one protestor was shot injured by security forces in Spin Clinic area. Another protestor said three demonstrators were injured during a clash with security forces in Sultankhel area.

Calls seeking comments from officials in Wardak and the Interior Ministry in Kabul went unanswered.
