KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A group of five militants joined the government-initiated peace process in southern Kandahar on Thursday, an official said.

The group announced shunning violence and joining the national mainstream at a special gathering at the provincial council office.

Atta Mohammad Ahmadi, provincial council member, Haji Syeda Jan Khakrezwal, senior officials and tribal elders attended the gathering.

Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, Ahmadi said the group which was active in Shah Wali Kot district and Kandahar City had relinquished anti-state activities.
