KABUL activists on Saturday alleged unfair means employed in the university entry test in southern Ghazni province and called for a thorough probe.

Barkatullah Farzan, a civil society activist, said the entry test was a turning point in the career of students. Transparency and neutrality in the exams must be ensured to uphold merit, he stressed.

A small number of invigilators, a shortage of question papers and darkness caused candidates problems in the entry test, he alleged, saying the exams were conducted at night — a big question mark on the Ministry of Higher Education’s efficiency.

Ahmad Zia Nawran, one of the candidates, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We arrived to appear in the test at 7:00am but it started at 3:45pm. As a result, many students had to face problems.”

Irregularities in the entry test caused a grave concern among candidates, parents and civil society organisations, he said. They threatened to launch protest against the way the entry test was conducted.
