HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Three workers of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in western Badghis province, an official said on Sunday.
The three were on their way to Qadis district from the provincial capital, Qala-i-Naw, when they were kidnapped late on Saturday, the governor’s spokesman, Mirwais Mirzakwal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The MRRD officials were carrying salaries of a road construction company’s workers, he said.
They included an engineer, a technical expert and a driver, he said, adding the kidnapped officials were traveling to the district in a private car without informing security sources.
Mirzakwal had no idea as to which direction the officials had been kidnapped, but said police had launched an investigation.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the kidnapping till filing of this report.
About two months ago, three workers of a road construction company were kidnapped on the Badghis-Herat highway. They were released after spending two weeks in captivity.
