KABUL (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Office (AGO) has prepared and submitted to court a dossier detailing crimes committed by a detained mafia gangster, Habib Istalif.
AGO spokesman Basir Azizi said the evidence gathered against Istalif showed he had links with local and international mafia groups.
He said Istalif had confessed to his crimes and his case had been sent to court after an investigation.
Kabul police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zahir has said Istalif, who escaped from the Pul-i-Charkhi prison a decade ago, is one of the prominent mafia leaders in Afghanistan.
Police had arrested Istalif in October along with an AK-47 before he could kidnap a trader.
Gen. Zahir said Istalif was involved in major crimes including kidnapping, murders of security and intelligence officials and arms smuggling.
