Afghanistan grabs carpet Oscar award

KABUL won the international Oscar Carpet award for the second time in an international exhibition held in Germany.

During the exhibition, six different types of Afghan hand-woven carpets were showcased, with two of them received the award, a statement from Commerce and Industries Ministry said.

Earlier, three more carpets of Afghan industry exhibited at a German Exhibition, Najla Habib Yar, chief of export development department at the commerce ministry said.

Rohullah Amad Zai, an economic analyst, said winning of carpet international award was yet another big achievement for Afghanistan.

The competition being held each year among 80 carpet producer countries in the Hamburg City of Germany – Afghanistan had won the award in 2008 as well.
