WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): US President Barack Obama on Thursday supported British Prime Minister David Cameron’s efforts to hold talks with Afghan and Pakistani leaders on establishing peace and stability in the region.

The White House said Obama phoned Cameron and expressed his support for the UK leader’s ongoing efforts at encouraging leaders of the two neighbouring nations to take concrete steps toward peace and stability.

Cameroon has been hosting tripartite summits with leaders from Afghanistan as part of his effort to bring peace and stability in the region. The last such talks were held in October in London by Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

A Downing Street spokesperson said the two leaders also discussed the upcoming Afghan presidential elections.

“On Afghanistan, the two leaders covered the ongoing discussions on the bilateral security agreement, the trilateral process and the forthcoming Afghan presidential election,” the spokesperson said.
