KABUL (Pajhwok): Three senior police officers were suspended on charges of failing to prevent a deadly group suicide attack killed 21 people, including foreigners, in downtown Kabul.

Interior Minister Mohammad Omar Daudzai said on Saturday the decision to suspend the three senior police officers, station head, crime branch chief and group commander, at the 10th police district had been taken in view of last night’s terrorist attack on a restaurant in the Wazir Akbar Khan diplomatic district.

Four UN employees, a senior IMF official, two Americans and other foreigners were among 21 people who lost their lives to the attack that involved three suicide bombers.

The Taliban have claimed the brazen attack on the Lebanese restaurant popular with foreigners.

Daudzai, who was speaking at the Kabul police headquarters a day after the attack, said the suspended police officials would be investigated in order to determine reasons behind their dereliction of duty.

He warned no negligence in performing duty would be tolerated on the part of police, saying the suspension sent a strong message to other police officers.
